In regard to the media coverage of “The Transitional Justice Commission Convened a Press Conference Today and Stated that: The Ministry of National Defense Should Cooperate with the Dismantling of the Chiang Kai-Shek Bronze Statue”, the Ministry of National Defense has stated today (17th) that the late president Chiang Kai-shek was the father of the National Revolutionary Army as well as the first principal of the Republic of China Military Academy, who played a historical role and had indelible achievements regarding the establishment of the Armed Forces and the survival and development history of the Republic of China. The Republic of China Armed Forces uphold the principles of “Fight for the Survival and Development of Republic of China” and “Fight for the Safety and Welfare of the Citizens in Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu”, hence civilian control of the military has already been implemented long time ago. The Ministry of National Defense respects the history, does not forget where we come from, and inherits the glorious traditions; hence there will be no changes to the current camp status.

The Ministry of National Defense has also pointed out that the “Removal of Guard of Honor for the Republic of China Armed Forces from the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall” should be executed in accordance with the overall landscape artifacts planning of the Ministry of Culture and the follow-up will be conducted by the Ministry of National Defense after evaluation.
